Thierry Plantey trained as an artist at the University of Aix en Provence. He lives in Rouen.
Style, inspiration, approach:
“What interests me most is the collision of different universes, different registers: ellipses, transitional spaces, the blank spot between two boxes in a comic book.”
Thierry’s work is driven by his fascination with the relationship between artist, artwork and audience.
He started by experimenting with the format of artworks: large, heavy canvases to represent and explore the painterly regard. Similar ideas are visible throughout art history, from Poussin to Cezanne and from Giacometti to the contemporary painter Miquel Barcelo.
Then Thierry broke with tradition and started exploring a radically different support: 9x9cm post-it notes. He wanted to consider the miniature, the sequential, a more narrative approach to the universe. He also started playing with the concept of repetition, multiplication, reduction and decline. Finally, diverse artistic techniques, in this case photography.
